EARWIG

Despite what they look like, with their large pinchers on their rear abdomen, earwigs are harmless insects that are primarily drawn to moisture. Their name comes from an old myth that they crawl into people's ears while they're sleeping and burrow in their brain. Outdoors, they’re often found in gardens, under planters, and beneath dead leaves or other organic debris where moisture is trapped. Although they can be found anywhere inside homes, they’re most commonly seen in kitchens and bathrooms, where they can enter through small gaps around plumbing pipes. Because earwigs thrive in damp environments, their presence indoors can sometimes indicate a hidden moisture issue, such as a plumbing leak or roof leak. In these cases, pest control treatments can help reduce their numbers, but fixing the moisture source is the only way to eliminate the problem long term
